About me
Hello! My name is Korneel Bouman, and I am a massage therapist. At once analytical, intuitive and compassionate, I use a mix of modalities to customize my clients’ treatments based on their physical and emotional needs. I’ve seen time and time again how people have become disconnected from their body, whether through trauma, overwork, stress, or lack of time, and help my clients restore balance to their mind-body connection through therapeutic touch and the resulting down-regulation of their sympathetic nervous system.
I care deeply about the wellbeing of my clients, and believe that when I work with someone, it is their time. It’s my job to facilitate and hold space by creating a calm, comforting, and restful container that allows my clients to release and relax. I’ve found that massage therapy is as much an art as a science, and often I’m intuitively drawn to areas needing attention that we were not necessarily aware of during our pre-session discussions. I will gladly work with anyone that feels drawn to working with me, and I have a special affinity for those that have previously experienced trauma, and the LGBTQIA+ population.
I was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, but now call the Catskills my home, drawn in by the mountains, skies, and nature. When not practicing I dabble in baking bread, brewing beer, and keeping bees.
I hope we’ll have a chance to work together.
Modalities
I don’t offer different service levels or just one specific type of technique during your session. Instead, I utilize a number of modalities to customize the right treatment for your body and needs. The main modalities I draw from are:
Swedish – often thought of as a relaxation massage, but it does so much more. It improves blood flow, increases flexibility, relaxes muscles, stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system, reduces blood pressures and heart rate, and can help improve your immune system.
Deep Tissue – Using deeper pressure than traditional Swedish techniques, this modality helps to release tight muscles, improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, and break up scar tissue.
Myofascial Release – a slower, gentler technique used to stretch the fascia that surround and support your muscles, allowing them more space to do what they need to do. Improves flexibility and reduces pain.
Neuromuscular Therapy – a specific form of deep tissue work where we find adhesions, knots, and trigger points, and using specific targeted pressure work on releasing your muscles.
Muscle Energy Techniques – a series of techniques where we work together on contracting and stretching your muscles, aimed at giving you greater range of motion and relieving tight and cramped muscles.
Cross Fiber Friction – This technique works on breaking down scar tissue and realigning fibers to create a healthier, more pliable tissue.
