What to expect
I like to take my time with clients, whether it is your first time or you come in regularly. A 30 second conversation before you get on the table just isn’t enough to learn about you, your body, and your expectations. I also want to make sure that you get the full treatment duration you’re paying for.
The below is a good general overview of what a session with me looks like. I also have a more detailed write-up about the trauma-informed aspect of my practice.
Before we begin our work, we’ll take the time to talk about how your body is doing, if there is anything you’d like me to focus on (or avoid), and your previous experiences with massage therapy. We’ll talk about your short term and long term goals: what you would like to get out of the current treatment, and where you would like to be after a number of visits. We’ll take some time to assess your posture; it’s amazing how much tension we can carry in our body without even being aware of it. We’ll cover any questions and concerns that you might have, and then we’ll move on to the body work. When we’re done you will have time to come back to the world, after which we will spend a few minutes to close the loop and plan follow-up treatments if indicated.
You will always get the full treatment length you choose in addition to the time spent before and after your massage (unless you arrive late and I have other obligations after your appointment.) Because of this, your appointment will be about 15 minutes longer than the treatment length you choose; please bear this in mind when planning the rest of your day. In general, it would be wonderful if you could arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled time in case we need to go over any paperwork.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about what to expect. I look forward to working with you!
