Chest and breast bodywork

Full chest and breast bodywork

Chest and breast bodywork can be transformative and deeply relaxing, and there are many good physiological, psychological, and emotional reasons to seek this out. Just as there are very valid emotional and psychological reasons to say: “this is not for me.”

On a physical level, there are many muscles in your chest wall, and breast tissue (of whatever gender) like all other tissues will benefit from loosening of restrictions, increased blood flow (and the additional nutrients that brings), and lymph flow. This work can help you breathe easier, lessen aches and pains, help mobilize (scar)tissue after procedures, reduce swelling after procedures, and promote overall tissue health.

Emotionally, welcoming a part of your body that society has things to say about into your bodywork session may be healing in and of itself, giving you the power to decide what you would, or wouldn’t, want to be included in your massage, rather than have society decide that for you. Having this part of you receive caring, compassionate, non-sexual touch can be transformative, and I have had clients tear up with gratitude, feeling whole, and feeling seen.

You may have complicated feelings about your chest, and the idea of working with it from a place of compassion, inclusivity, and love may appeal.

Your chest may have experienced trauma – whether elective or not – for which bodywork can be incredibly healing both physically and emotionally. Cancer, mastectomies, reconstructions, augmentations, and reductions all leave their mark, and bodywork can help by promoting healing and reintegrating these changes.

Much like abdominal work, chest and breast bodywork can be vulnerable, and requires a lot of trust. In that vulnerability surrender can be found, and surrender can lead to a deep letting go. Perhaps the feedback I hear most consistently from clients is how deeply relaxing they found the work.

If any of this resonates, let me know and we’ll talk about what that would look like in terms of draping and the actual work to make sure you’re comfortable. If you do decide to include this in your session, you can change your mind at any time.

If you have questions about this, feel free to text me at (347) 693-9340 or email me at help@woodstockmassageworks.com. Or you can go ahead and book an appointment and we’ll talk through everything before the start of your session.
