Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to undress?
I will work with you in whatever level of dress or undress you’re comfortable with. While I’ll be able to employ more modalities when fewer clothes are present (all the way to fully undressed) there is a lot we can do through underwear, clothes, or even blankets. Most people either keep their underpants on or fully undress. Regardless, if you do undress, you will always be covered except for the part(s) I’m working on.
How long a massage should I get?
That really depends. If you’re coming in for a maintenance appointment, 60 minutes is enough to touch on most things and get you to a place of deep relaxation. Alternatively, if you’re not looking for a full body massage, 60 minutes is great to focus on one or two specific areas (please note: 60 minute sessions cannot be booked online). For a first consult I would recommend 75 or 90 minutes so there is more time to assess your body as I work. Similarly, if you would like to give us both the opportunity to slow down and spend more time on specific areas, I would advise a longer duration, up to two hours.
Will it hurt?
Depending on the work massage can at times be painful, but I don’t believe in the idea that a massage has to hurt for it to be effective. You determine at all times what pressure or comfort level is good for you. Please don’t be shy about letting me know if you’d like anything different during our work together, and I’ll communicate and check in with you throughout the massage as well.
Will I get emotional?
That is definitely a possibility. The mind and the body are intricately connected, and often emotions and stress are stored in the body. It is possible that as your body relaxes, those emotions are released. This is totally normal. If that happens, and I notice, I will acknowledge and ask you if you would like a break, or if you would want me to continue. If I don’t notice, and you would like to take a break, just let me know!
What if there are areas I do not want you to work on?
Just let me know. Even in the spur of the moment. You’re in charge.
Do I need to have a full body massage?
Not at all. If it makes more sense for you and your body to focus on specific areas, that’s what we’ll do.
Should I tip?
That is entirely up to you. Massage therapy is a professional treatment modality, and I neither expect nor rely on gratuity. That said, if you feel that our work together went above and beyond and you’d like to express that, such a gesture would be received with gratitude.
