Bodywork in support of psychotherapy
Bodywork can be a powerful ally in support of psychotherapy, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
Psychotherapy can be hard work, and sometimes we just need a break. Getting out of our head and into our body can reset anxious thought loops and give our brain a rest. There are plenty of studies that have conclusively shown that bodywork is beneficial against depression and anxiety. Mixing bodywork in with your therapy sessions has a way of soothing your entire system, which may well enable you to go deeper in your next psychotherapy session.
As detailed elsewhere, bodywork can put you into a liminal state where the subconscious is able to process things your conscious mind might not be able to. Maybe you feel stuck in your progress, or feel like things just don’t click. Allowing yourself to enter this liminal space may help connect the dots.
Perhaps you’re working on something involving certain parts of your body, or perhaps your entire body. Working to physically integrate and connect whichever part of your body you are working with, with care and compassion, can be a powerful complement to the work you do in your psychotherapy session.
Speaking of care and compassion, to be truly cared for (which is one of the hallmarks of a good bodywork session) can be a transformative experience, particularly if you don’t usually get to experience that, or are working on feelings surrounding worthiness.
If you would like, I would be happy to confer with your psychotherapist, but his is completely optional and not required in order to work with me in this capacity.
