Bodywork for grief processing
Grief is a specific complex emotion that hits us deeply. Whether you’re grieving the loss of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, a miscarriage/stillbirth, or any other loss you’re experiencing (or are preparing for), it affects our heart, our soul, and our body.
Modern society does not leave us with many options to experience and process grief. Taking the time to truly feel grief is difficult, nor are we taught how to actually interface with grief. Often we’re trying to get past it, or perhaps on the flip side we feel stuck deep within it, with no clear way out.
Grief requires acknowledgement. It requires making space and time for, so that it may be felt, and through that feeling may be processed. Bodywork might not be the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to this, but few things are as well suited to help you move through grief.
By acknowledging and using the link between body, mind, and spirit, and trusting each of these parts’ wisdom to heal, we can use bodywork to bring us into a state that allows us to feel deeply, and to process both consciously and subconsciously.
What that looks like differs from person to person. Sometimes these may be deeply felt sobs, with tears and snot running down your face. And there is space for that (and tissues). Sometimes it may be drifting off into a liminal space, and realizing in the days that follow that something shifted for you. Sometimes a tremendous gratitude may be felt for all that we had, and still have.
Whatever this may look like for you, it is welcome. I’ll be there to tend to your body (and mind, and spirit), to hold space, to witness, and to support.
